First, a bit about me. I am a graphic designer with more than 15 years of professional experience, based in the Denver area, originally from our nation’s capital, with a love of design that is clean, smart, and intuitive. I have more than twelve years of experience using the entire Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, among other software.

commala_logo_explained2Where does your name come from? How do you say it? My first name is Indian (I am not), and is pronounced like the punctuation mark, “comma”-la (hence my logo), or the URL staple “.com”-a-la (hence my website), or Vice President Kamala Harris. My last name is Dutch (I am not), and is pronounced exactly like it is spelled: VAN-der-kolk.

What software do you know? What work experience do you have? The short answer is “plenty.” For all software and experience-related questions, please refer to my résumé matrix, employment history, education and skills, or if you like drinking from fire hoses, my print-friendly résumé, which contains all of the above information.

Anything else worth knowing? I have a meticulous attention to detail, excellent proofreading skills (for spelling, grammar, and formatting), and am capable of leading a team, as well as working as a team player. Also, in case you don’t have it, to view all samples of my work, you’ll need Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and this website looks best in Chrome and Firefox.

Where should I start? Wherever you want. The portfolio samples are broken up into different categories based on the the medium/type. All samples are also tagged by client, so you can see that as technology has evolved, so has my work…

I have created numerous print materials (primarily using Adobe InDesign), including yearbooks, pamphlets, journals, directories, Congressional reports, guestbooks and travelogues, just to name a few.

Web & Interactive

I’ve created countless interactive files for Course-Based Training, several dynamic websites using the latest technology, and dozens of Office templates and fillable forms to increase efficiency.

Marketing Materials

One thing that online portfolios aren’t very good at showcasing are marketing handouts, brochures, mailers, etc. If you’d like to see anything in person, shoot me an email, and I’d be happy to show you the hands-on stuff during the interview.
